Chapter 14

• I don't know how many minutes I've been staring at the ceiling of my apartment. The moment I entered the house, I immediately went to my room and lay down. I kept thinking about what Agustine did, but no matter how deep I thought about it, I didn't really know why he was acting like that. My mind kept replaying his sudden change in behavior, his strange calmness, and the way his eyes softened for a fraction of a second. I felt dizzy trying to reconcile the man who could be so harsh with the one who now seemed almost… considerate. I just closed my eyes and massaged my forehead. "I left my car," I uttered, and shook my head.
• “Who picks up people in the middle of their work? I mean, it should be after work!" I talked to myself. I imagined him leaning against his car like a scene from some romantic cliché movie, completely unconcerned with appearances, yet perfectly composed. My cheeks burned at the thought, and I quickly scolded myself for thinking of him like that. Instead of getting crazy thinking about it, I just neglected the thought. My time is too important to be squandered on him. I rested for a while and then did my normal daily routine; clean myself, dress up, cook, eat, and so on. Every action felt heavier than usual, like my body was weighing down under the stress of my thoughts.
• When the night came while preparing for sleep, something suddenly entered my brain that crept me out. No, it's impossible. He doesn't have a crush on me, does he? I cringed. My stomach flipped violently, and I felt the heat rise to my cheeks. I tried to reason with myself, telling myself that he’s not capable of these tiny human niceties, yet part of me didn’t want to ignore the possibility. "What the hell are you thinking, Khrystal? Just go to sleep because you need to catch up the first trip tomorrow,” I said to myself and tried to close my eyes. My heart, however, refused to cooperate, pounding as if it knew what my mind was entertaining.
