- Once Amaya was out of the church, I allowed the fire in my hand to sputter out. The altar candle flame seemed to dance and twirl on the edges of my vision, trying to jump back to me, begging to be used. No more fire though. It was time to switch tactics, time to see if my gamble would pay off. The witches before me pulled their hoods back, smiling in triumph.
