• It was as if I had been struck dumb. Meanwhile, without a second thought, Gabe shifted into his wolf form in a blur of fur and muscle. His large wolf leaped forward with a fierce snarl, intercepting the black monster before it could reach the injured woman.
• I stood frozen for a moment, watching as Gabe fought with a primal ferocity that sent shivers down my spine. A ferocity he often fought with when protecting me. I scolded myself. Now was not the time to think about anything other than protecting an innocent woman. As the black monster clawed and bit at Gabe, who was relentless in his defense and fought back ferociously, I let a stream of fire loose to injure the monster. He moved away from Gabe and Gabe honed in on him, his strength and speed unmatched, each movement calculated and precise. His eyes met mine and I understood what he was trying to tell me. I began to chant the incantations for the banishing spell. Just like we’d done at the pillars of unity, we worked together to defeat the monster.
