• Stark terror. Fear. Powerless. Miscalculations. All these words and feelings swirled around in my brain as I deftly jumped off my jet before it could even land. Fucking hell. We’d been idiots. I felt the bond break, felt the pain and searing loss. Felt Evelina’s despair as it seared itself into me, imprinting how I had failed her into every crevice of my being. What I couldn’t do was feel out her location. My men were all incapacitated, poisoned because fucking Joel snuck onto the packlands and managed to slip the concoction into last night’s food. Shit. I’d thought he was an idiotic drunk. I’d never thought he’d be a threat.
