• “I…Kyle is not my biological father,” I protested feebly. “He loves my mama, and by extension us. He is not the one that was there when I was born. My oldest memories are of my papa and me. They are good memories. Special to me. How can I erase that from my mind? How can I not hope for my papa to become that man again? Yeah, Kyle is an amazing stepfather. But what Kyle did…” I trailed off, realizing I was basically spilling my guts to this man. I’d never talked about these feelings to anyone. Not even Robert. To be fair, Robert had never made the same observation that Gabriel just had.
