• I don’t expect much to change when we return home. Killian will have to act the same as always. He’ll have to ignore me, speak to me like I’m nothing, just to keep up appearances. If he treats me differently, people will notice. They’ll question it, whisper about it, and those whispers will spread like wildfire. My mother will definitely notice, and I know she won’t just let me stop cleaning. That woman would rather die than let me be seen as anything but the burden she raised me to be.
