• I sit here staring at him, and I know Lucas Ainsley knows exactly what he’s doing. His smile stays easy, and relaxed, like he’s got no idea why the air around this table has gone sharp enough to cut through. But I know. I watched it. I watched his hand slide beneath the table. I watched the way Aurora froze beside me, her breath catching just enough that I felt it through the bond. And he touched her like he had every right to.
• She’s shaking. Not visibly, not enough anyone else would notice, but I can feel it. She’s sitting too still now. Breathing too carefully. She hasn’t looked at me once since he leaned in.
