- Lucas is freaking out, his eyes wild, his grip on the empty whiskey glass so tight I’m surprised it hasn’t shattered. I step closer, cautious, and gently pry the glass from his hand. He watches me, his gaze flickering with something between panic and disbelief, as I refill it from the bottle on the coffee table and hand it back. The liquid sloshes slightly, catching the sunlight.
- His eyes dart from me to the glass, then back again, like he’s trying to anchor himself to something real. “The baby,” he whispers, his voice barely audible, and I freeze, waiting for him to finish. “If the baby’s a wolf, what then? Does it just... shift spontaneously because it can?”
