• I got back into the offices one year ago, though I’ve never truly been free. Cain’s been here, the elders, everyone watching my every move. This past week, though, the building’s been empty. No shadows in the corners, no footsteps echoing behind me. It’s taken three painfully long years to reach this point, and I’m still lost, still scrambling for a way to get to Aurora and the baby without destroying everything.
• People file out of the meeting room, their voices fading down the hall, and I sit quietly, staring at the polished table. I have a choice: give up the pack, walk away, and live among humans. But that risks them coming for Aurora anyway. The only other path I can see is to threaten them. This is my business, I built it, and I can sell it to whoever I want. In the process, I could tear open every gated community, expose the packs to humans, make those safe havens unlivable for wolves. It’s a nuclear option, but it’s leverage.
