Chapter 8

  • Oliver’s POV
  • “I haven’t touched a female, relaxed Drew!”
  • Drew gave me control, I relaxed my hold on Micah and shook my head, and left the coffee shop, I don’t know what the hell just happened. Drew went silent, and I was too dazed and confused to understand anything. Who was he talking about, who was his? We have no mate. At least not until I get the answers about Soma, she may or may not be our mate. She isn’t human, a wolf, or a vampire, and things weren’t adding up.
  • “We have no mate, Drew,” I said to him, but he completely ignored him. I was getting pissed. I wanted to know why he freaked out the way he did, and why he wouldn’t talk to me now. This was going to be a long way and I wasn’t going to go back to the coffee shop until he told me what the hell was going on. “Come on Drew I need to know what is going on, that smell, you freaked out.”
  • “Mate.” He growled and said nothing more.
  • I wasn’t sure going back to the coffee shop was a good idea, but I needed to find out where they went and if they ran into someone, hugged someone. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath and walked into the coffee shop, I heard Micah and Ryan talking.
  • “He freaked out for a reason Micah. Maybe his mate is around.” Ryan said.
  • “Maybe, but maybe not,” Micah said pressed against the door frame.
  • “So I want to know where the two of you were today?” I asked coming into the office. “Drew isn’t talking to me, and I need to figure out what the hell you two got yourself into,” I said sitting down and looking at the two of them. They were a little freaked out but were calmed down now.
  • “We went to the tea shop across the street, and a few stores down the block.”
  • Micah said before Ryan answered. “I wanted to see what this fuss was about this girl, she seems like a nice girl, Ryan is right there is something about her that isn’t human but she doesn’t smell werewolf either.” He said touching his chin. “She’s not a bloodsucker either.” He said glancing at Ryan.
  • “Well of course not,” Ryan said rolling his eyes. “If she was, I would have torn her head off and not thought about it twice last night.”
  • “Watch it, the young warrior you still have a lot to learn when it comes to taking on vampires, they are not easily killable and they are not stereotypical that you see in the movies. You cannot put something in their heart and they die.” Micah said rolling his eyes. “So what is Drew on about?” he said bringing his attention to me.
  • “Someone you’ve been around today is our mate apparently,” I said leaning back in the chair. “Since you were probably around plenty of people I am not sure who to go after.” Looking down at my hands, I was confused. Here I was thinking the Moon Goddess had forgotten about me, and now this mess these boys had on them was driving me crazy.
  • “Or maybe it’s that girl across the street, she’s come in here before and you said something about a smell before,” Micah said clearing his throat. “Why don’t you go and browse her store and see if the smell is on her?”
  • “I don’t think that is a wise idea, Marks is already all over her, and I don’t want him getting anymore close to her,” I said looking at him. “But if Marks tries to harm her then maybe I will go and check her store out. That is why the two of you are going to be her bodyguards and ensure she isn’t harmed.”
  • “But Oliver if she is your mate you need to claim her,” Micah growled. “This is how we do things.” He said slamming his hands on the desk.
  • “You told me she isn’t human, werewolf or vampire so we need to figure out what she is before I go claiming her if she is in fact, my mate. We don’t even know it is her that I am smelling.”
  • “You know what!” Micah growled. “I’m going to ask the girl to come over here and get suggests and force you to meet her that way we can put this all to rest.” He said wanting to leave the office.
  • “Stop!” I growled in my Alpha tone. “I said not yet!”
  • “Fine,” Micah said rolling his eyes. “You are making this into something that should be dealt with on-pack lands, she should be brought there and explained everything there. Having your mate over there and you not wanting to expose your situation with her is not only putting yourself in danger it’s putting everyone in danger Oliver.” He said walking out of the office.
  • I stood up and walked over to the window, it was raining outside I thought about taking Drew and running to get him out of his hiding spot. I knew he was pissed off at me, but I needed to ensure we were safe and I needed to ensure she was safe too. I was afraid she would reject me seeing she wasn’t a wolf if it was Soma the tea shop owner.
  • Finally finding a mate and being rejected tore my soul a little, I knew I had to show the pack I was strong, but right now I was a little boy scared shitless. Tightening my jaw Marks went into the tea store, he either was pressing my buttons or testing her buttons. One way or another he was going to die by hands. I was going to make him die slow and painful.
  • “What are you looking at? I could feel your aura shift.” Micah asked walking over to me.
  • “Marks is over there messing with her again, he took a few agents in with him.” I snapped. “I don’t like how this is playing out.”
  • “Then you need to go over there and see if she is your mate and we can ensure she is safely protected. Sending warriors to follow her is only minimal protection, when she knows about us she’ll accept us and have security posted at the door.”
  • “If she is my mate do you think I would have her at a tea shop without me there with her to protect her?” I said looking at him. “This whole thing is stupid,” I growled. “I don’t want that vampire anywhere near her, and there he is doing something I don’t like and there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it.”
  • “Well you could but you’re being a selfish asshole that doesn’t want to march over there and see if she is your mate. Go over there Oliver and talk to the girl, I am sure she would be happy that you would love and die for her.” Micah said trying to convince me, but he wasn’t going to. I had to figure out what Marks plans were and why he was messing with the girl.
  • “Just do what I told you to do and don’t question my judgment, when I am sure about her I will let you know. Right now I don’t like what is going on over there. I would send you over there, but I know Marks would have a field day with you.”
  • “I have a better idea,” Micah said turning to face the cashier. “Michael come here I need you to do something.”
  • “Yes Boss?” he said nervously.
  • “I need you to run across the street, buy some tea I don’t care what, and find out what is going on in there.” He said handing him some cash. “Be careful though there are dirty cops in there don’t give him lip if he says anything to you.”
  • “Yes sir.” He said taking the money and running across the street.
  • We watched him, he opened the door and disappeared inside the store. My heart was racing, and I didn’t know why. I guess I thought I was a little kid in the candy store waiting for the prize. I just hoped he didn’t have any problems, Michael exited the door empty-handed.
  • “Well, that doesn’t look too good.” I snapped.
  • He came back into the store. “Sorry Bosses the cop wouldn’t let me buy anything, he was harassing the lady that owns the store. I couldn’t make out what they were talking about, but he was threatening to shut her down.” He said handing Micah the cashback.
  • “Thanks for your help, go back behind the register,” Micah spoke.
  • As Michael walked by me, that smell hit me again, and Drew came to the surface. “I need my mate!” he growled, I tried to calm him down but he was in control.
  • “Drew!” Micah growled grabbing ahold of us. “You cannot go over there not right now. Give Oliver control back otherwise you are going to get us all in a lot of trouble.”
  • “My mate is in trouble and you stand there like statues.” He snapped. “I will kill the cop and save my mate.” He growled. “But fine I will wait.” Drew gave me control back. “Fuck.”
  • “So are you going to go over there and talk to her or am I going to continue to bug you until Drew takes over and makes the mistake and does something you’ll regret?” he quizzed.
  • “I haven’t thought about that yet,” I said walking back into the store. “This was going to be harder than I thought. Drew just confirmed she was our mate and I haven’t gotten to know her, and this was what was worrying Micah.”
  • The pine and waterfall smell lingered around Michael and it was driving me crazy, I needed to get out of there as soon as I could. I didn’t bother telling anyone where I was heading.
