Chapter 35 Help At Last (Two)

  • Tears of desperation begin to flow down my cheeks. It feels like all I’ve been doing ever since I got on this island is crying. I can’t go back to Charles without the water though, because I know how thirsty he must be to have asked for it. I can’t remember the last time I gave him water to drink. So, I begin to crawl back the way I’ve come, pausing to catch my breath at intervals.
  • I don’t get very far before I begin to feel myself losing consciousness. My head is pounding and my vision is becoming blurred around the edges. I can’t hear anything above the pounding in my head and the roar of the ocean waves. I collapse against the sand, giving up, and muttering silent apologies to Charles. I have to fight against losing consciousness now, but as I think this, I realize that there is no point. There’s nothing to eat, so this weakness isn’t going to go away.
  • The pounding in my head worsens as the second passes, or maybe it is the roar of the ocean. In any case, I don’t care what it is. I just want it to stop. Light flashes down from the sky and I groan audibly because I don’t want it to rain.
