Chapter 17 Survival (Two)

• I wake up late the next morning when the sun is already shining down through the trees. It’s a surprise that I woke up so late, considering how uncomfortably we slept last night. Jessica is still snoring her pretty head off, and I stare down at her, noting once again how beautiful she is, even though she is literally skin and bones. Once, she had been one of the most beautiful women in America and had been one of the highest-paid models in the country, but now, she looks tired and haunted.
• I walk to the edge of the water and shield my eyes from the sun as I stare into the distance, trying to see if I will see any ship coming to rescue us. I see nothing, and neither do I hear the sound of any helicopter flying overhead, but I’m hopeful that soon, we would be off this island.
