Chapter 39

  • Rupert agreed. Walking past me, he did not hesitate to mock me. "Mr. Harrington, take your time to survey the landscape. We will not bother you again." I saw the two of them walk by and passed the child. I realized only then that my point of focus at first was Clara and Rupert. I never paid attention to the child and noticed Rupert's closeness to him. Was this the child who had suddenly appeared on Rupert's side? Before this, I had been hearing Rupert's news for Clara, but when I couldn't spot her, all of a sudden I saw on the media that Rupert had a child with him. It was strange that he didn't get married, but had a child with him. The media had been investigating the origin of the child, but there were no clues. The boy had clearly dropped from the sky and appeared beside Rupert. Later, the media speculated that the boy was the bastard child of Rupert, but he did not deny it. No one from the Harrington family appeared to deny the rumor. I scoffed when I heard the news.
  • Didn't Clara always think that Rupert was a gentleman? If she were to find out about his bastard child, what would become of her? But now I found that I was wrong. Clara seemed to like the child a lot. It seemed that she knew this had happened very long ago and she got along well with the child. In fact, to confirm, in her heart, there was no comparison between her and Rupert.
  • She could think that he had an illegitimate child, but she could not think that she had another child. Thinking that she even convicted me to death without even asking me the reason, I simply got very angry. I returned to the car and leaned against the back of the chair. I immediately realized how stupid my behavior was. She was the person to whom I surrendered my whole heart, and I alone was for her in her heart. I did not live so well as she did, but she was in comfort and ease.
