• I had been consumed for days. Upon finally meeting Dr. Eliza Morton, I listened to her and kept the secret from Edward Harrington. He thought she was not my mother and assured me that someday he would help me discover my biological mother.
• I seriously unsettled by deceiving Edward. I am not a dishonest woman. Guilt was too overwhelming. But Dr. Eliza Morton came over and explained that she had not been a mother all these years but now that she was wealthy, she wanted to repay me—to take me overseas to study.
