Chapter 6

  • "Shut up!" Sophia exclaimed. "Are you for real?" She asked.
  • Amber had returned from work, distracted the kids with television and told Sophia all that happened. Sophia, being a fan of Xavier De Vil couldn't believe he was the one her best friend drunkenly had a one night stand with. It looked surreal to her and she didn't know which other emotion to portray aside shock and surprise.
  • "I was so shocked and felt like the ground should open and swallow me whole. The tension was much and when he saved me from falling, I don't really know how to describe the way I felt." She said,
  • Sophia chuckled. "Babe, you're very lucky, do you know that?" She asked.
  • Amber furrowed her brows. She looked at Sophia and laughed at the expression on Sophia's face. When Sophia looks like that, it was either she was about to say something crazy or she was up to no good.
  • "What do you mean?" Amber asked and Sophia moved closer to her.
  • "Xavier De Vil is among this country's top 5 richest young Billionaires, ranking number 2 and making his way to number 1. You had a one night stand with him and had his children. Do you know what that means?" She asked.
  • Amber was quiet for a while, trying to digest what Sophia just said. When she realized what this mischievous friend of hers meant, she gasped.
  • "Sophia!" She screamed.
  • "What! I'm being realistic here. Your life will change forever!"
  • "I am comfortable with where I am, Sophia. Come on, do you think it's reasonable to just walk up to him and be like, Mr. Xavier De Vil, I am the girl you once had a one night with, I got pregnant and I've given birth to triplets for you." Amber snapped.
  • "That could work," Sophia said. "He'd be delighted to know that he had found true love."
  • Amber sighed. "Sophia, you're unbelievable. How could you tell me to do something like that? Do you think he's just going to welcome me with open arms? We aren't in the same class, Sophia. He's a rich Billionaire, I'm a single mother trying to fend for my kids. We are different!"
  • "No you aren't. Come on, Amber. You've got to tell him. Who knows, he might be looking for you." Sophia tried to persuade her.
  • "He might be looking for me to get me arrested, right? Sophia, I feel like you don't know how cruel Billionaires can be when it comes to critical issues like this. He might be thinking that I set him up and feel I'd use my kids to blackmail him and that would put me in big trouble. I can't afford that. Just let me work and provide for these kids." Amber said with a tone of finality.
  • Sophia was about to say something when Elena rushed into the room, crying. Amber stood up and rushed to meet her.
  • "What's the problem, cutie?" She cupped her cheeks
  • "Mum, what Jaden is doing ain't fair at all!" Elena snapped.
  • "What did he do?" She asked.
  • Elena wiped her tears. "Mum, we all agreed to watch Superman on the condition that when we're done, we'd change it to Barbie Dream house adventure but when we were done watching it, Jaden refused to change it, saying he wanted to watch part 2 of Superman!" She wailed.
  • Amber facepalmed. "Did you try to settle with him?"
  • "Yes but he insists." Elena folded her hands.
  • Amber stood up. "Alright, let's go to the living room," She held Elena's hand and went to meet the kids. When she got to the room, she saw Jenna and Jaden dragging the remote.
  • "Jenna! Jaden! Stop that right now!" She snapped.
  • "Mum, Jenna is the one dragging the remote with me. She is trying to prevent me from watching my favorite cartoon!" Jaden yeller, while struggling with the remote.
  • "Don't listen to him, mum. We had an agreement and Jaden doesn't want to keep his own part of the deal." Jenna yelled as well.
  • Amber sighed and looked at them angrily. "I'm going to count to 5 and if the two of you don't let go of that phone, I'm going to ground you for a week without television." She snapped.
  • Jenna and Jaden exchanged shocked looks.
  • "1..." Amber started counting but they were hesitant. "2... 3..." They calmed down this time. "4..." Her gaze on them turned colder and Jaden was the first to let go of the remote. Jenna dropped it on the couch as they faced their mother, their eyes on their feet.
  • Amber folded her arms. "What was the meaning of what you both just displayed?" She asked angrily.
  • "That wouldn't have happened if Jaden had just kept to our agreement. A deal is a deal!" Jenna snapped. Being the smartest one, she always talked like an experienced adult. Her English and pronunciation were fluent which surprised Amber at times.
  • Amber averted her gaze to Jaden. "I thought you three had an agreement," She asked and Jaden nodded. "Why didn't you keep to it?"
  • "I just wanted to watch part 2, mummy. I wanted to know how it would end." He defended himself.
  • "But that wasn't part of the agreement. You've got to learn how to keep to your own part of deals. You can always have the chance to watch part 2 again." She said,
  • Jaden felt bad. "I'm sorry, mum."
  • "I'm not the one you should apologize to," She said.
  • Jaden looked at his sisters, who had displeased looks on their faces. "I'm sorry. I won't do that again," He cooed but they didn't answer him. They folded their hands and sat on the couch. He faced them, "I'm sorry. I promise I'll always keep to my own part of deals. I'll not fight over the remote with you anymore,"
  • They looked at him, their gazes soft.
  • He smiled and hugged them. They reciprocated the hug and Amber smiled.
  • "This is so heartwarming!" Sophia exclaimed.
  • Amber chuckled and pecked their foreheads. "I love you, babies!"
  • "We love you, too." They hugged her.
  • Jaden gave the remote to the girls and sat in their middle. They changed the channel and when Amber saw that their focus was on the television, she started leaving and Sophia followed her immediately.
  • "About our discussion..."
  • "We've concluded, Sophia. I'm not doing it!"
