Chapter 56

• Amber gasped after Charlotte accused her of stealing the file, she would never do such a thing to anyone, of what benefit will be to her anyway? Amber raised her brow at Charlotte,"What nonsense are you saying? Why would I even do that in the first place?" Amber asked staring directly at Charlotte who didn't look fazed at all and kept on saying,"I should be asking you that? Why would you do such a thing? I remember coming into this office early in the morning to see you were already here and it seems you were quite busy with something, when I asked you about it, you flinched right? You did, so that only means you were the person who stole it". Amber felt a headache coming up, she didn't understand why Charlotte would turn the table against her so casually when she was indeed the one who caught her in the office that morning, what's with the lies? Amber looked at Xavier and her heart dropped instantly to his stomach when he looked at her as if he didn't want to believe what he was hearing. Seeing his reaction, Amber got even more furious at Charlotte and faced her,"Are you crazy or are you just starting to go insane? I was the one who saw you in the office so what are you saying?"
• Charlotte fired back at her,"Are you trying to call me a liar? Huh? You want Xavier to think I stole the file right? Okay fine" Charlotte then turned towards Xavier, Amber couldn't understand what was going on anymore, why was Charlotte acting all out, she was really determined to get her fired. But arguing with her was one thing and accusing her of a crime was another which was even more serious. Amber continued staring at Charlotte as she said to Xavier,"Enough of all this rant anyway, why don't we search her place and drawer? She might have hidden it in there". Charlotte turned towards Amber,"Surely you won't stop us from searching it right?" She smirked evilly at Amber which made Amber believe that she must have done something! Amber remembered how she flicked when she saw her earlier, Charlotte might have taken the file from Xavier's drawer and kept it in her drawer which explains why it was out of place. Amber got confused suddenly, she didn't know what else to do anymore, if Charlotte and Xavier both search her drawer, there is a 100% chance that they will find the file inside. Xavier will then automatically lose trust in her and see her as a bad person. Why was Charlotte this heartless?
• Before Amber could even respond, Charlotte was already making her way to her seat, Amber got scared immediately as she stopped her out of impulse,"No!" Charlotte stopped in her steps and both Xavier and Charlotte turned to stare at Amber, Xavier looked at Amber with a confused expression, he didn't know who and what to believe, he knew Amber couldn't do such a thing, but the way she acted just now made him have mixed thoughts. If she was sure she wasn't guilty then she wouldn't stop Charlotte right? On hearing Amber's voice, Charlotte turned to her and smirked once more, saying,"Unfortunately I don't take orders from you" Amber stood rooted to one spot as Charlotte moved over to her drawer immediately and brought out the file exactly as it was. Charlotte feigned shock as she held the file to Xavier's view "How could you do this to Xavier, Amber? Why would you put him at risk in winning this competition, it's very obvious you don't want his success" Amber words got stuck in her throat, sfe couldn't speak, how could Charlotte be so cruel? Now Xavier would never believe her even if she tried explaining to him because the evidence was there that she was the one who did it when she wasn't. Xavier was astonished, he took the file from Charlotte's hand to confirm if he wasn't seeing things, he opened the file after collecting it to see that it was indeed his own, how did it end up in Amber's drawer? He needed explanation from her, he still couldn't believe she would do such a thing. He looked at Amber silently asking for an explanation from her. Amber who was staring at him noticed his expression, she immediately said to him,"You have to believe me sir, I have no idea how that got in there nor did I ever try to steal it from you, I didn't do it sir, you have to believe me" Amber's words were immediately cut off by Charlotte,"How can he believe you when the evidence clearly shows you are behind this? Don't make a fool out of yourself and just admit the truth already"
