Chapter 42
- Xavier stifled a laugh at Amber's attitude towards his best friend Jake. Poor Jake probably thinks the world and women revolve around him, mostly women, it was nice for Xavier to see that Amber was different, he was beginning to like her more and more now. He couldn't wait to unravel her many exteriors. Amber kept on snubbing Jake who didn't seem to know when to stop pestering someone, Xavier thought that his friend had suffered enough from Amber's ruthless ignorance to him so he came in to save him. "Jake we still have a lot to talk about, quit pestering my secretary, she already has a lot on her table as it is' '. Amber silently thanked Xavier for intervening, she was so close to losing it. Jake who was oblivious of what Xavier was trying to do still didn't budge, he kept on talking to Amber. Xavier shook his head in disappointment and just let him be.
- Soon after Jake's incessant talking, Amber excused herself from the office. She thought it was better to be anywhere but here, at least Jake won't bug her when she's outside. She doesn't have a beef with Jake in any way but her first impression of him wasn't so great because she hated womanizers so very much. She heaved a deep breath when she was finally away from the office, she didn't know where else to go so she headed for the cafeteria instead. On her way she found Breanna looking lost as if she had traveled seven miles away into her thoughts, often times she caught Breanna staring at Xavier's door, Amber felt like something was up, with the way she stared at the building with a sense of longing. What the h*** was going on? Amber thought but she decided not to ask Breanna anything, she knew she would not get a reply from her. Breanna might be the type to spread gossip around and people's secrets but she very well knows how to keep hers tight and away from the public.
- Amber's thoughts got cut off by the loud laughter she heard coming from Xavier's office, she directed her eyes towards the office to see Xavier and Jake coming out from it, the two men were laughing probably at a joke the other one made, Amber doesn't know how she found herself staring at Xavier and admiring his smile, the way his deep dimples showed when he threw his head back laughing, she was mesmerized by his appearance, he was indeed a very handsome man, if one looked closely, they would notice the resemblance between him and Jared, her son. Amber soon snapped herself out of her thoughts before she got caught staring at him. Her gaze moved towards Breanna who was in a secluded corner staring at the pair, no, she was staring more at Jake with a sad and forlorn look on her face, Amber creased her brows and wondered if those two had history together. She made a mental note to ask Breanna about it later if she was ready to speak.
