Chapter 2

  • If anything, Corey wanted to strangle his best friends at that moment. The bar multi coloured lights were flashing here and there on his body but Corey was almost unbothered as he took another sip from the cup in between his fingers.
  • “So your old man really wants you to get married before he hands you the company?” John asked and Corey shrugged.
  • “He’s been pestering Joanne too. I don’t know what’s his sudden deal with great grandchildren. If he wants a baby to play with, there are lots of them in orphanage homes” Corey replied as the three guys seated with him burst into laughter.
  • “Then give Step a call, she’ll gladly marry you” Leon said as the lousy table suddenly went silent at Leon's words.
  • Stephanie Omro, one of the few childhood friends Corey had and since when they were little, Stephanie had grown a crush on him that continued till all the way from pre-school to middle school to high school and to college. She did everything and anything within her power to win Corey’s heart but the latter wasn’t moved in the slightest. He repeatedly put her there and reminded her that she was just his friend and nothing else but Stephanie had always kept hoping that one day she would be able to move his mind since apart from her, she could literally count the girls he interacted with on one hand apart from her.
  • These were facts that Corey and his best friends knew. Corey took another sip from his wine cup as he turned to Leon and gave the latter a small smile.
  • “If your dad gave you a marriage proposal to marry Stephanie, would you?” he asked as Leon frowned.
  • “Why would I marry a woman like Stephanie? She’s too scheming and I don’t like it” Leon replied and the table roared with laughter while Leon sighed upon realizing what he had said.
  • “I didn’t mean it” he said as Peter burst into laughter.
  • “Of course you didn’t mean it. We all know that” he replied as he burst into laughter again while Corey shook his head.
  • “Do you guys realize that the old man is dead serious? You guys are laughing about this and I don’t find it very funny” Corey replied as the men nodded.
  • “Should we find you a random girl on the streets?” John asked as Corey furrowed his eyebrows at him.
  • “Hello, what would you like to have? Or rather would you like your glasses refilled?” a feminine voice brought a deadly silence to the table as the four men turned to the person who had spoken.
  • In his life, Corey had seen his own share of beautiful, handsome, sexy, attractive, sexy, pretty and whatsoever adjective who wanted to use describe a woman but the one standing in front of him; rather a lady because he looked much less young than him was looking well…... he really didn’t know.
  • She was dressed in the club’s waitress uniform that was a white shirt with a bow and a tight well fitted short skirt that did well enough to show her long fair legs even under the dull multi coloured lights. Her hair was packed into a bun and something Corey couldn’t see well was used to hold it up together.
  • Her face was clean and attractive, her nose slanted all the way to her small yet mesmerizing lips. Her eyes were round and small reflective gray eyes and a smile decorated her lips as she stared at the four men. She was tall and slender but Corey was sure she would barely reach his shoulder if they stood beside each other.
  • She definitely wasn’t the kind of beauty he saw everyday so he had no idea of why he was so attracted to her charms. She certainly was beautiful and Corey was sure she wouldn’t struggle that much even if she ventured into the modeling or acting industry.
  • Her face was enough. More than enough.
  • “Are you new here?” Leon asked as the girl pursed her lips.
  • “No. I’ve been here for about two months I think” the girl replied as she wore a bigger smile.
  • “Why? You’ve not seen me before?” she asked as Corey chuckled quietly.
  • She didn’t even recognize her boss; she was funny.
  • Leon stared at the girl in front of him for a second before nodding his head.
  • “Yes, you are right, I’m a regular here and I’ve never seen you before” Leon replied as the girl nodded.
  • “That’s a given. I’m mostly downstairs so you shouldn’t have seen me before. it’s my second day on the VIP floor” she said as Corey nodded quietly while taking another sip of his drink.
  • “How has it been?” John asked as the girl sighed as she rubbed her forehead.
  • “Exhausting. It’s hard to satisfy rich people” she replied as she shrugged.
  • “This is one of the most popular clubs in this country so I was expecting people from all walks of life but not this” She added.
  • “So you like it?” Peter asked as she nodded.
  • “I don’t have to like it. The pay pays my tuition fees and my rent so it’s all good” she replied and Leon smiled lightly.
  • “Tuition fees? Are you still a student?” Leon asked as the girl cocked an eyebrow at Leon.
  • “Are you hitting on me right now?” she asked as the table went silent for a while before Peter and John burst into laughter.
  • “Hitting on you?” John asked, still laughing while the girl nodded and maintained a smile on her face.
  • “Or you think I’m not pretty enough?” she asked as John shook his head.
  • “You are really pretty,” John replied as Leon shook his head.
  • “I’m not hitting on you” Leon replied as the girl folded her arms.
  • “Why not? You have a girlfriend?” she asked as Leon chuckled while shaking his head again.
  • “No I don’t” Leon replied as the girl nodded.
  • “I know. Single guys like you guys are the ones who have the luxury of coming to clubs at this time of the day” she said as she shook her head.
  • “Else, your girlfriend would have dragged you to some date with candles or to the cinema to watch some kind of romance movie” she added as Peter and John burst into laughter, Leon joining them this time around while a hint of smile hung around Corey’s lips.
  • “Why? You don’t like it?” Peter asked as the girl chuckled.
  • “Too stereotypical. Can’t we do something else?” she asked as John laughed again.
  • “What’s your name? I’m genuinely intrigued” John said as the girl smiled widely.
  • “I know but I’m honestly curious about him. He hasn’t a word since I got here” the girl said as she turned to Corey and met his eyes.
  • “You are curious about me?” Corey asked in his deep voice, making goose bumps appear on the girl’s skin.
