Chapter 11
- The rays of sunlight flashed into the room Thursday morning, making Kaia flinch as her eyes adjusted to the brightness. The night before, when she returned to her room, she was still worked up—both from her heated conversation with Kai and from overhearing the maids’ chatter.
- Climbing into bed, she had stared at the ceiling until she eventually drifted off to sleep, forgetting to close her blinds—hence, the sunlight now stabbing at her eyes.
- She continued staring at the ceiling for what felt like hours until the vibration of her phone on the bedside table snapped her attention to the side. Picking it up, she glanced at the screen and gasped when she saw the time.
