Chapter 53 No Giving Up

• Dufe crouched down beside Kara and called, "Mrs. Asha, are you at home?" But no one responded.
• "It's no use going to the neighbors," Kara said. "One is away on holiday, and the other is working."
• A further exploration of the house showed the curtains half-drawn across an upstairs bedroom window, as if someone might be lying down there, or… Kara's mind was filled with that awful fear of a patient overdosing. She could almost see Mrs. Asha up there, and the empty bottle beside her bed.
