Chapter 104 Mira's Mission 3
- His movement was just what was needed; the pirogue jolted to itself and settled on the bottom, sending up a cloud of pollution that had probably rested in place for years. Mira, watching Ren Everett and the end of that heavy pole, which moved in her direction, stepped out of the boat and into the shallows.
- The pirogue, its weight redistributed, rose in the bows. Ren was thrown completely off balance, and he, the pole, and all went over the side in a flat dive that sent a resounding splat through the night.
- Thayer, still unconscious, floated by Mira's legs. She turned around to hook his shirt in her still-tied hands and flipped him over onto his back. He promptly turned around and lay still, his head above water. But this last impulse was too much for Mira's footing; she slipped, tied, and went down in the muck.
