Chapter 10 A Hidden Affair

• Derek nodded, frowning, but said, “Remember that I'm always here, in case you have anything to tell me. Your secrets are safe with me. If you need any help to remember anything, I'll provide it swiftly.”
• Her eyes went to his face in suspicion. “What could he mean by saying my secrets are safe with him?” She was wondering what he would think if she told him the truth. If she had told him that she was not Daphne, but Nora. Would he take her seriously or be angry? She could never know, because she could never tell him. Trying to hide her inner turmoil, Nora nodded and turned to leave. This time, he let her go.
• Nora ran to shut herself in the bathroom, the only place where she could find any privacy from Derek. She sat in the bathtub, her knees drawn up against her chest, her head in her hands, trying to be calm, trying to work things out, but filled at one moment with exultance and the next with despair.
