Chapter 39 Master Of The Game 2

  • With those words Ruby was rendered speechless, Serena and Morris might have wronged her but she didn't have enough evidence to sue Serena for home wrecking and her husband was playing the dumb card behaving as if he did nothing wrong. "She must be joking, a hundred million dollars and a well-written apology from Mrs. Rebecca Ruby Fox," Morris said and dropped the one-paged contract on the table, Alice quickly reached for it to see things for herself and it was written just like Morris had said so. "I'm not paying her hundred million dollars that's a lot of money and..." "And you are going to pay the fine" Ruby snapped and Morris raised a brow at her and their eyes meet. "Yes Morris, you heard me right, you would pay the one hundred million dollars for damages while I write and read the apology to your mistress," Ruby repeated. "Are you crazy, where would the money come from, your father's business or will they pay half of the money huh?" Morris asked and Ruby nodded her head. "Yes, I will call my father and ask him to send you half of the money after payment is made and we are getting a divorce," Ruby said stunning everyone. "Ruby, you can't possibly divorce your husband because of that low-life girl," Alice said. "I'm done with him, I want out, I'm tired of the lying and cheating, I'm tired so let's just get over with the divorce," Ruby said and Morris chuckled. "You know you can't divorce me, Ruby, you asked for this marriage and I'm not done with it yet so you have no right to ask for a divorce," Morris said. "Oh I have every right to do so, it is what I want and you would give me exactly what I want, at least you can go and be with Serena Testa and other numerous ladies and excite you more than I do Morris," Ruby said. Morris made to counter what she said but Alice was fast enough to speak. "Let's not argue about it here, no one is getting a divorce as long as I remain your lawyer and marriage counsellor, let's just take care of Serena first, then go home and talk like adults," Alice said. "Oh my mind is made up Alice and I don't think you or anyone can do anything about it, for the past ten years of my life, I have had nothing to show for it, no child, not even my husbands love, I'm tired, I deserve better than Morris fox, I deserve to be loved," Ruby said standing firmly by her words. "Don't be naive Ruby, do you think your overly religious father is going to entertain the fact that his daughter wants to dishonour her marriage?" Morris asked. "With my reasons yes," Ruby said confidently. "And what reasons, that I and Serena having an affair, look, Ruby, we are just business partners, she works at Dawn Bancrop, we meet there and...." "And you think I'm going to believe that lie huh?" Ruby chuckled. "Don't you think that lie is already too overused by you, I'm not stupid Morris, the French lady was your French tutor and now Serena is your business partner, impressive," Ruby snapped angrily.
  • "Stop it you two," Alice yelled at them angrily "if we are going to have this conversation, it's not going to be here, let's wrap up with this police case, go home and talk about it like civilized adults do I make myself clear?" Alice asked sparing both of them a glance enough to access their facial expression. "Sign the contract and make the payment Mr. Fox while Ruby pens down the apology letter," Alice said before signalling Barr. Linda to come closer. "I sincerely hope we are on the same page here," Barr. Linda said immediately she approached them. "Yes, my clients already agreed, we just need some time to write the apology and make payment," Alice said. "Okay, you still got 30 minutes so please make it snappy, I have somewhere very important to be," Barr. Linda said checking her time. Thirty minutes later, Barr. Linda walked out of the police station with a proud smile on her face and Ruby, on the other hand, wasn't as happy as she thought she would be after dealing with Serena, everything was just falling apart for her.
  • Serena smiled from chin to chin as she stared at the credit alert from her bank app, it was already late so she was the only one in her ward, Derrick would have stayed with her if not for the little quarrel they had after Morris left with the policemen. Derrick had asked Serena about the terms of her settlement which she told him happily thinking Derrick would feel the same excitement as her but Derrick asked her to release Ruby without taking any money from Morris and then apologize to Ruby instead of Ruby doing the apology and when Serena refuse, they both got into a heated argument and Derrick walked out angrily leaving Serena all alone. "This is what I would have missed if I had listened to Derrick," Serena hissed and quickly dialled Xiomara's number she couldn't wait to break the news to her best friend. "Hi Caro," Serena said excitedly. Xiomara who was in her study room stretching her approach strategy to the Wallace family lowered her phone to stare at the contact ID before she placed it on her ears. " why are you sounding all excited?" Xiomara asked. "He agreed to settle, he already paid me a hundred million dollars and his wife would be reading the apology letter to me tomorrow," Serena smiled. "Wow, You are a hundred million dollars richer, guess they weren't smart enough to know they could have easily sued you for home wrecking," Xiomara said. "I guess so too, my lawyer said they were arguing, I really don't care what is going on between them, I was on my own when her husband came to me so she should have approached me diplomatically to settle the scores and not violently," Serena said. "Yeah, but just be careful, you are going to meet someone as crazy as you are one day and she would teach you your place," Xiomara said and Serena laughed. "Until then best friend thought I should share the news with you, bye," Serena said and ended the call.
