Chapter 36 The Phoenix Emerges

  • Into the darkness, a group of humans with a handful of Elites ran through the woods and behind them were infected predators, who had eaten the carcasses of the dead and had morphed into lethal, killing machines, that never stopped and always hungry. The group of humans becoming tired, for already the infected creatures had already eaten three members of the group who had fallen behind. These creatures had been pursing them ever since the group escaped the building when zombies and creatures had managed to get through the gates. The Elites turned around once again and began firing at the creatures, they knew fighting these infected beast in beast mode was not an option. These creatures could cause them to become infected just like the humans who were already susceptible to the zombies. With the night already hazardous to them because of the darkened green mist of smoke merging with the darker charcoal smoke, it proved to be too much for both humans and creatures alike. Elite's battery packs were running short, and already, they had drawn too much attention to themselves. The group stopped running as they stared at the wall, and behind them the Elites nearly clash into the humans who had stopped abruptly. They heard the infected coming for them as every gun aimed for this was to be their last stand. The infected growling as their eyes, was like death staring back at them. The children clung to their loved ones as tears ran down their faces. Their loved ones trying to shield their babies and trying to be brave. As the infected came a little closer, everyone braced themselves for the pain, but nothing. Out from the darkness a figure leaped into action, she had been following the group, trying to get to them before the infected could kill anymore. She raised her hands and flames erupted around the creatures, killing the infected on the spot. Once the area had been blocked of by the flames, she turned around to look at the group of creatures and humans, "I thought I wasn't going to get here in time. Come and follow me."
  • They didn't say a word only followed though they were tired, she helped them to carry whatever she could to lighten the load. Up ahead, there was a bus with humans and creatures that she was helping. The driver was a mutant along with the other three buses that were with the convoy. The mutant behind the wheel powered the buses so that they could have mobile transportation. It was an eight-hour drive, and she had saved a few more that were not infected. They drove to an abandoned prison where Elites and mutants were protecting, along with humans helping as best they could.
  • "This is a sanctuary. You all are welcome to stay, but everyone who does stay are required to work and pull their load. We have doctors here that will make sure none of you are infected, and there is food here too."
