Chapter 23 We Are Losing

  • After a day of rest, a council meeting was called inside the council hall and everyone was present including the princess and the two priestesses. King Hartley was the first to talk in the hall and he praised head General Ben, Princess Aris, the princes, General Heron, and low generals for their bravery and hard work in protecting the east side of the wall.
  • Head General Ben, Princess Aris, the princes, General Heron, and low generals all bowed saying to King Hartley that it was their honor to do so. Then King Hartley asked Princess Aris “have there been any from Suci?”.
  • “Not yet” said Princess Aris.
  • King Hartley said to the Kings and generals in the hall “I want feedback about the last battle”.
  • “No soldiers were lost to the Arkians on the west, north, and south sides of the wall except the east side” said King Rahim.
  • “We lost 420, 000 combat soldiers to the Arkians but all the archers were not hurt. The east side of the wall is vulnerable since we don't have a priestess to stop the Ram Arkians that are being thrown. The east side should have to be our main priority of protection” said Head General Ben.
  • “How many soldiers do we have left in total?” asked King Hartley.
  • “We have a total of 4,130,000 soldiers, consisting of 1,450, 000 archers and 2,680,000 combat soldiers” said Princess Aris.
  • “What about the wounded combat soldiers?” asked King Hartley.
  • “They are also fit and ready to fight” said General Faruk.
  • “The east side of the wall needs to be protected at all costs. The leaders on the east side will be taking many of the soldiers. The other leaders and I will be taking 300,000 archers and 600 thousand combat soldiers each, and the remaining soldiers will be given to the leaders commanding the east side of the wall” said King Hartley.
  • “Yes, your royal majesty” said everyone in the hall in a union.
  • “The soldiers are to continue to watch the Arkians and if they make any moves it should be reported immediately. We have to do all it takes to survive till the full moon which is in a few days” said King Hartley.

  • “Are we privately seeing on the affairs of the state I ask of you?” King Hartley asked Queen Rebeca.
  • “Not yet, your royal majesty. I haven’t been able to find one when I do I will notify you” said Queen Rebeca to King Hartley.
  • 21 DAYS LATER
  • It has been a living hell for head General Ben, Princess Aris, the princes, General Heron, and the soldiers that are defending the east side of the wall. The Arkians were smart enough to know that the east side of the wall was vulnerable so they focused their main attack on the east side of the wall.
  • Only a minimum number of Arkians always attacked the other sides of the wall to keep the soldiers busy while the maximum number of Arkians always attacked the east side of the wall so they could conquer it and make their way into the city.
  • During those days, a lot of combat soldiers lost their lives to the Arkians. Realizing the Arkians' attacks were focused on the east side of the wall, many combat soldiers were deployed to the east side of the wall and many were killed even though many of the Arkians were also killed.
  • Fighting the Ram Arkians from time to time made Princess Aris and the princes' skills get much better and it was now easy for them to kill Arkians. Prince Ranork and Prince Ragon were always competing with Princess Aris to show who was better than the others and that only made them get better in their fighting skills but still, Princess Aris was no match for Prince Ranork and Prince Ragon when it came to fighting.
  • King Hartley didn’t know he was always wasting his saliva telling Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary that they should speed up whatever it is that they doing because the army need them but the two priestesses aren’t doing anything. King Hartley told the priestesses that they needed to find a supernatural being they could make the army into before they all lost their lives to the Arkians.
  • Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary only listened to King Hartley but never worked on what he told them to do. Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary find King Hartley's suggestion dangerous and the consequences of it very high so they do not work on his request and always lie that they haven’t found one yet.
  • Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary later begin to have second thoughts concerning making the army into powerful supernatural beings like the Arkians when they see the army is losing much of them even though they are winning the battles. The soldiers are always getting killed by the Arkians even though the soldiers are killing many Arkians too, and that makes the two priestesses have second thoughts.
  • It was a loss to the Kingdom side because their army was reducing in number while the Arkians just kept getting more, and if the kingdom continued like that, the Arkians would end up killing all the soldiers before the full moon that is in a few days and then they will all be in danger.
  • When King Hartley entered the council he met the council on their feet arguing with each other but when King Hartley entered the hall, they all stopped arguing and bowed to him. The council sat when King Hartley sat on his throne then King Hartley said to the council “it has been two days since the Arkians attacked us last. What do you think they are up to?”.
  • “I don’t think anyone in this council knows about that” said King Duran.
  • “We have to stop worrying about the Arkians’ movement for now, your royal majesty. We should be more worried about the soldiers we have left” said King Jeff to King Hartley.
  • “Yes, your royal majesty. No matter how many Arkians we killed, the Arkians always returned much more in number. That is to say, they have an unending reinforcement. Since we no longer have eyes on the portal gave the Arkians a chance to be able to reinforce themselves in number” said head General Ben to King Hartley.
  • “We are losing all the combat soldiers to the east side of the wall. We also need to do something about that. We will only be sending them to their death if we put them in the wall to join the army because they won’t be able to fight the Arkians” said Princess Aris.
  • King Hartley asked head General Ben “how many soldiers do we have left at the moment?”.
  • “We have lost so many to the Arkians. The Arkians always focus their attack on the east side of the wall and even though we always stop them from breaching the wall, we always lose many combat soldiers. We still have a lot of archers but not many combat soldiers” said head General Ben to King Hartley.
  • “The archers can fight with a sword right?” King Hartley asked head General Ben.
  • “Yes. They were trained to use both swords and bow and arrows” said head General Ben.
  • “I want the number of soldiers we have left in detail” said King Hartley to the generals and the other Kings.
  • “We have a total of 2,800,000 soldiers. We have 1,300,000 archers and 1,500,000 combat soldiers” said head General Ben.
  • Hearing that, King Hartley thought for a while before saying “300,000 archers will be made into combat soldiers. A million combat soldiers and 400,000 archers will be assigned to the east side of the wall. The east side needs more soldiers”.
  • “Deploying more soldiers to the east wall will only make us lose more of the soldiers. The soldiers are not even enough to last us till the full moon. I think we should deploy fewer soldiers to the east wall so we can be able to maintain the army till the full moon” said King Kung Lim to King Hartley.
  • “That is nonsense. How can you even say that? I think maybe you should take our places in the east wall battlement and see what it is that we are facing” said Prince Ranork angrily to King Zuch.
  • King Zuch was annoyed by Prince Ranork's words and wanted to scold him but he wasn’t able to because King Hartley said “even with much army, it is still hard to defend the east side of the hall against the Arkians. If it is not for the great general experience, the east side would have been defeated a while ago so deploying fewer soldiers to the east battlement will only give the Arkians a chance to easily breach the east side of the wall”.
  • “I don’t think the north side will be needing much army. The Arkians are not attacking the north wall” said King Kung Lim.
  • “Less army will be deployed to the north battlement. We have a few days until the full moon, we must survive no matter what. The ministers should also continue to handle the people and put their minds at rest. You are also to help them bury their dead sons honorably” said King Hartley to everyone in the hall.
  • “Yes, your royal majesty” said everyone in the hall in a union, and the meeting was dismissed.
  • King Hartley was in his private pavilion seated alone and waiting for Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary he told the guards to call for him when Princess Aris walked into the pavilion. Princess Aris bowed to her father and said to him “I have just received news from Uncle Suci”
  • Hearing that, King Hartley asked Princess Aris “what did he say?”.
  • “He said he had found the place you sent him to find and he will be returning soon to get people that can help him set up the place” said Princess Aris.
  • King Hartley was glad to hear that and said “this mission is secret so I want it to remain secret, and you are going to help us make it successful”.
  • “I will be glad to do anything I can to help the kingdoms survive” said Princess Aris with a bow to King Hartley.
  • “You will help me get your blacksmiths and carpenters friends. They will be the ones to follow Suci back to the place and set it up before we all vacate Arcadian to the place” said King Hartley.
  • “Yes, your royal majesty” said Princess Aris.
  • “You can go get them now” said King Hartley, and Princess Aris left the pavilion.
  • Minutes after Princess Aris left, Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary walked into the pavilion and met King Hartley seated and expecting them. Queen Rebeca and priestess Mary bow to King Hartley before sitting. Immediately after the two priestesses sat down, King Hartley said to them “you both need to explain why finding a supernatural being that can fit us is taking so long to find? We are running out of soldiers and time”.
  • Hearing King Hartley, the two priestesses take a deep breath before Queen Rebeca says to King Hartley “we are sorry, your royal majesty, because to be sincere, we have never opened the dark world book to find a being that can match with humans ever since you tell about the plan of making the soldiers into dark beings”.
  • King Hartley was shocked and confused to hear that so he asked the two priestesses “why? Or you just don’t want to obey my order?”.
  • “That is not it. We were afraid of the consequences that would come after. The army might be consumed by what we make them into and there will be no way to rectify that” said priestess Mary to King Hartley.
  • “And that is why I said. Find a being that can fit with us. A being that can match up with us so that we will still be in our right sense of mind after becoming whatever being you both made us” said King Hartley.
  • “Even with that, there will still be consequences. Naturally, there will be consequences after every dark magic” said Queen Rebeca to King Hartley.
  • “Whatever consequences it is, we will have to deal with that later. I might have calmed everyone down that our army will help us survive until the full moon but that is only a lie. With the army we have, they won’t last until the full moon which is why I am depending on you both. You are the only ones that have the power to save us” said King Hartley.
  • Hearing what King Hartley said, the two priestesses thought for a while before priestess Mary said to King Hartley “Whatever consequences come after, you are to take full responsibility”.
  • “I will” said King Hartley.
  • “Okay then. We will have to stop helping the soldiers on the wall and focus on the task” said Queen Rebeca to King Hartley.
  • “That is fine as long as you make us stronger. But defending all three sides of the wall will be so bloody” said King Hartley worriedly.
