Chapter 6
- Ryker
- When Alpha Zeke reached out to me because he wanted to test the strength of his pack in case of a raid I was all for it, things have been mostly peaceful and the last time any major fatalities happened was almost ten years ago with his father, and I was never happier to see that arrogant asshole meet his end. From what I heard he was a shit leader and an even shittier father, so the best thing that could have happened for the white river pack was for him to take over even at such a young age.
- I had been scoping out the east perimeter for a few days when a scent intrigued me and brought me and Griffin closer than what we were planning on, the smell of lemon and clove kept pulling us in. We stopped not wanting to blow our cover or the reason that we came but then the night of the planned training pack raid I smelled it again but stronger and it was coming to me. She heard me before she saw me, which was odd because I wasn’t moving, I had to make sure Griffin knew that even though her scent was intoxicating we had to follow through on the reason we came.
- She’s strong and it caught me off guard that she was able to land so many solid hits, and damn her teeth hurt, Griffin took it a little too far though when he broke her leg but what happened after shocked me. She seemed to go into a trance like state for a few seconds then she got bigger and her very badly broken leg snapped back into place, and when she looked at me and an icy blue eye had replaced one of her golden eyes, it made confusion wash over me which is why she took advantage of my hesitation.
- Most wolves especially she-wolves cower at my size but not her, there was never one single moment when I sensed the slightest bit of fear, not when she first saw me and not even when she had a broken leg.
- “Where is she?”
- I’m sitting in Alpha Zeke’s office with him, and her parents and Beta Matthews have been trying to mind link with her, “She…is being stubborn and please don’t take this the wrong way but she is still upset about what happened last night.”
- I let a low grumble escape, “That doesn’t answer my question.”
- Her mom looks at me, “She is probably at the lake by the east perimeter, she goes there to think.”
- I stand up because that’s all I need to know and just as I reach the door I hear her mom speak up, “If she’s still angry she’ll have a hard time biting her tongue.”
- I pause for only a second to take in her words then walk out of the room, if her bark is as bad as her bite then I’ll have no problem biting her tongue for her. I walk through their packhouse thinking that she must be seriously pissed off if she’s willing to take the repercussions of her pack leaders instead of coming to see me.
- I walk outside and for some reason her scent seems stronger even from this distance, so I keep walking in the direction of the lake, it takes a few minutes but eventually I make it over the hill and see the lake down below and sure enough she’s sitting there. I see her head turn slightly and stick her nose up in the air, so she smells it too?
- I keep walking not even trying to hide my presence and as I get closer to her she looks over her shoulder but not at me, “What do you want?”
- Damn that was bitter and angry and I try to bite my tongue but if she keeps talking to me like that she’ll have to be put in her place, “I want to talk.”
- She scoffs and looks back at the water, “Talk about what?”
- Her tone isn’t changing, and I feel my jaw clench as I walk closer to her, “About what happened last night.”
- I lean against one of the trees behind her and just when I think I’m going to have to push harder she stands up and walks straight over to me clearly still unafraid and now that I’m looking at her fully I have to force myself to not alter my face because goddess she is gorgeous.
- “There is nothing to discuss, you took it too far last night so the only thing I would be willing to talk about is hearing you apologize to me, so if you’re not planning on doing that, then you can leave me the fuck alone.”
- I feel my face turn cross, “Clearly, you don’t know who I am, girl.”
- My aura is begging to push out, so I try to force it down as she walks slightly closer to me and even though she is slightly taller than most she-wolves she is still tiny compared to me, so it reminds me of a mouse standing up to a lion.
- “I don’t give two shits who you are! It does not justify the lengths you went to for a training exercise!”
- She turns to walk away from me, but when she raised her voice at me, I had a calm rage wash over me, so I reach out and grab her arm, “Let go of me!”
- I turn around so her back is facing the tree and at the same time I see her free hand come out of the corner of my eye and it’s coming straight for my face so I quickly grab it before she can make contact and bring it up to my other hand and hold them with one hand and put my other hand on her stomach and push her hard up against the tree.
- “I want answers.”
- My voice was low but still emanating the calm rage I have, “Answers about what?”
- Her voice was lessened from its previous volume but still had the anger behind it as I feel her hands struggling to get free, “Tell me what happened last night.”
- I had brought my face closer to hers and if I have any effect on her she is doing a good job hiding it, “That’s none of your damn business.”
- I raise an eyebrow at her as I stare at her eyes for anything that resembled last night, “You’re wearing contacts, why?”
- Her brows furrow and I feel the anger radiating off her, “That’s none of your fucking business either.”
- I feel a low grumble escape from my chest as I bring my mouth to her ear and I hear her hold her breath, “You have a mouth on you, I don’t know what you get away with here, but in my presence you will watch your tone.”
- I hear her let a breath out that has a slight growl to it and being this close to her is hard to not be overwhelmed by her scent, “You are not my Alpha, I owe nothing to you.”
- I reluctantly back away from her ear and look straight into her eyes, “I may not be your direct Alpha, however, as the Alpha King, I demand respect and obedience, and you little one, are no exception.”
- Her eyes were unwavering, and I heard the slightest skip in her heartbeat, something that she has been keeping calm the entire time, I let go of her hands and move away from her. I’m not getting answers out of her in this state, she’s angry and my mood is too dominating, and she doesn’t seem to be backing down, so I walk away from her to hopefully reconsider my demands.
- I storm off back to the packhouse feeling like I got nowhere with her, and it took every ounce of restraint to not just keep inhaling her scent, she seemed unphased and I’m thinking that we may end up staying here longer, because if her scent is that strong she’s probably close to turning nineteen. As I get closer to the packhouse I see Damon talking with a few of the fighters they encountered last night and when he sees me he comes up to me.
- “Hey, where’d you go off to?”
- I groan at him still feeling the calm rage emanating inside me, “I went to go and talk to her.”
- He chuckles slightly, “The little she-wolf that took a chunk out of your face?”
- I glare at him, but he just laughs, “Did she tell you anything?”
- I stop not wanting to discuss this in front of her parents or Alpha Zeke, “No, she was too pissed off about what Griffin did to her leg last night.”
- “Well, you can’t really blame her, I’d be pissed at you too.”
- I sigh, “I don’t blame her, but damn she’s got a temper on her.”
- Damon raises an eyebrow at me, “You mean someone actually stood up to you?”
- I roll my eyes at him, “You’re getting too much enjoyment out of this.”
- He yet again just laughs at me, “You could just ask her parents or Alpha Zeke.”
- I shake my head at him, “No, I want her to tell me.”
- He groans a little bit, “Does that mean we’re going to be staying here longer than expected?”
- I raise an eyebrow at him, “You’ve been itching to get out so why are you complaining?”
- “Yeah, but I was thinking somewhere more fun than here.”
- I smirk at him, “What? You didn’t have fun last night?”
- He rolls his eyes at me, “Yeah trying to make it seem real but show restraint, so we didn’t kill any of them accidently is not what I consider fun.”
- I chuckle at him and go walk back inside the packhouse to let Alpha Zeke know that we’ll be staying longer than anticipated.
