Chapter 57 Fifty Seven

• The hall was so silent that even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard. Amelia’s gaze shifted to Shawn, who sat beside her. She had been covertly observing his expression throughout Alica's questioning, but he remained inscrutable. When Donald posed the question to Alica initially and she dodged it, Shawn’s lack of reaction made Amelia begin to doubt her thoughts—maybe she was mistaken. However, when the man boldly proclaimed himself as Alica’s suitor, it caught her off guard and caused her heart to constrict. She glanced down at Alica and clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her skin.
• Donald couldn’t believe his ears, even though he suspected it, even though he asked the question to know what Alicia would say, even though the question was a trap for Shawn, he never expected him to take it, not in a million years.
• Alicia couldn’t bring herself to breathe. Shawn had told her that he would have to first tell Donald about their engagement before announcing it to the world, and now, he just did that.
