  • Mason has a rethink of the situation that maybe he was overreacting. Maybe she’d just rubbed her eyes before nodding off and that was why it looked like she had been crying. It was probably nothing.

  • “I am actually starving.” He extended his hand to assist her when she began to stand up and walk forward. She positioned herself on the edge of the couch by tying her fingers through his. “Thank you,” she said huskily. “You’ve been very good to me, Mason.” It wasn’t the first time she’d said such a thing, but every time she did, he was besieged by guilt.
