• Lisa found herself in a bind. At least three women were speculating about her relationship with Mason, and they were pretty close to predicting the type of relationship they had. Is it really that obvious? Why did they presume she and Mason had a similar relationship? What if Chris finds out? What if he overhears it and gets suspicious of them? What if he becomes more aware of her every move? Lisa let out a sigh. She’d undoubtedly soon lose her mind; it was probably too much to hope that she’d be able to come to work and not be subjected to immediate speculation.
• If she was honest with herself at this point, this whole setup wasn’t entirely working out the way it was supposed to. If all the employees already had this representation of her and Mason kept making it obvious with his over-favoring directives, no one would believe they weren’t sleeping together and that she wasn’t here merely to provide Mason with sexual services, even if that was indeed her primary job duty. Despite being on his payroll, they both knew that was precisely what she was. A paid sexual submissive.
• “Are you insane? Do you know what would have happened if he had caught you? You would have been fired on the spot, and God only knows what else he would have gone after you for,” one of the women said. Great. They were still here.
