Chapter 12

  • Lisa sat in her living room after doing her morning chores, happy she’d been given the day off following her time in human resources and the hospital the day before. At the very least, she’d have one day to think about the arrangement she’d just agreed to. It both enthralled and terrified her to death. Mason was just what she was looking for. The work was merely a means of getting him.
  • She wasn’t naive — or dumb — enough to think their relationship would last any longer than his others. While she didn’t know the specifics of his previous relationships, she’d heard from Chris that Mason’s maximum relationship length was one year, and three months were more common than not.

It would make finding a new job easier for her once he ended their relationship. It didn’t matter what kind of job. It would also provide her with experience, which was a plus. Her phone rang as she peered into the distance, signaling a text message. She retrieved it from her handbag, which she’d left on the floor in front of the sofa, and discovered an unusual phone number with a local area code.
