Chapter 85

  • Mason frowned when he noticed that none of the lights were on after letting himself into the apartment. Had Lisa misunderstood and gone to her apartment instead? Except for one occasion when Chris took her out to dinner before dropping her off at her house, she had spent nearly every night since they had returned from Paris with him. He had become irritable and grumpy after just one night without her, and the next morning, he arrived at work in a foul attitude. When he entered the living room and found Lisa curled up on the couch, asleep, it immediately relieved his tension.
  • She was wrapped in blankets from head to toe and his fireplace was burning. He squinted. Was she unwell? Thinking back, she’d been fine before she’d gone out to get their lunch. Sunny, bright and smiling. Cheerful. She is just as stunning as ever. He was alarmed by how reliant on her being at his office he had become. How much she contributed to his day. Most people needed coffee in the mornings. He only required Lisa.
  • Her eyes were red, puffy, and blotchy as he leaned in closer to her to feel for feverish symptoms. She appeared to be crying. What in the world? What might have occurred? What did she not tell him? He wanted to avoid disturbing her, but he was inclined to wake her and ask what the hell was wrong. She appeared weary. Deep shadows rested underneath her eyes.
