• I wanted to jump for joy when I got out of the hospital. I had spent nearly two weeks there, and I had started going crazy. My phone was also flooded with messages from Claire, a few funny videos, and missed calls. She seemed so worried, but friends were allowed to worry about each other, right? I couldn’t believe how relieved I was she didn’t have any feelings for me. It was for the best now that I could get killed at every single moment.
• Stepping out of my car, I tensed my jaw and ignored the cool air that met me. My thoughts were flooding me with red and yellow flags. I was going to miss the freedom this place gave me. My own house. I stared at its big windows that faced Claire’s apartment, the red and black paint on it, and its modern structure. It was my only fresh gulp of air.
