• We all held our breaths as we waited to see what this all was about. My eyes slid to the exit and saw three men standing guard there. If we had to run, we would be screwed. On second thought, I was the one most in trouble. Maxim was for sure going to survive because he had his mother’s support, and Anna could pretend she knew nothing about this. This made me feel a bit better. I wouldn’t drag them down with me. But then I wouldn’t be able to experience all the things I had dreamed about all my life. I wouldn’t get to create a family or talk to Claire in person... I bristled. I had to stop thinking about her. Why was she even on my mind? We were just friends.
