Chapter 59 Planting Seeds

• Lucas was getting frustrated. It wasn't easy for him to admit that, and it was even less easy to make him realise it. But he did now, since he had to force his jaw to relax and take several deep, long breaths in order to push past the frustration.
• The source of his frustration was Ulysses Roguetooth, alpha of Roguetooth pack. The old alpha looked to be in his seventies, though he was definitely much older than that. He was dressed formally, with a tweed jacket and trousers that had been popular in the 50's and 60's, and his white hair was slicked back with copious amounts of gel, making his head look like an oily egg. His hands, however, were wrinkled and shaky, the skin thin and dry. Privately Lucas wondered how not a single Roguetooth Beta had considered an Alpha Challenge. It would be the easiest Alpha Challenge ever. Maybe they were privately arguing amongst themselves which of them would become the next Alpha? That was another reason to do away with the Alpha Challenge, Lucas thought.
• Not that old Ulysses would agree. Lucas kept taking deep breath after deep breath as the old Alpha kept talking about how important tradition was. "I mean, you can't just throw out the old ways," he was saying, his voice sounding as shaky as his hands were. "What's wrong with the old ways?"
