Chapter 45 Port In A Storm

  • From the boat, Laguna City looked like a sparkling garden of lights in the darkness. Eliza stared, open mouthed and grinning ear to ear, staring up at the neon lit billboards, the headlights of cars zooming by in a busy street below. The buildings around were all well lit and the people walking by looked so happy. She had only seen pictures in magazines of big cities like this in glossy photos and advertisements, and now she was here.
  • Viktor was busy steering the boat into harbor, standing at the wheel in his linen shirt and sandals. Eliza stood upon the prow, marvelling at the sight. She realised that this was the first time she had been in a different city from Redcliff, the farthest she had ever been from home. It made her anxious, but it was a good sort of anxiety, a thrill unlike anything she'd ever experienced. Eliza also realised that this was only a tiny blip on the horizon. There were other places farther than this in the world, and it excited her to think she could see these places.
  • She turned to look at Viktor. It excited her more to think she would see these places with him.
