Chapter 7 Forget It

  • Lily’s POV
  • I finished cooking, and when I went out of the kitchen, the house’s main door suddenly opened. Vincent stepped in with a gift for Angela.
  • “Hi, honey!” he greeted and kiss on her cheek.
  • Vincent has an oval face, puffy eyes, a sharp nose, and thin lips. He’s handsome with a moderate physique. He has a height of 180cm.
  • “I have already cooked, change your clothes, and we will eat soon,” I told him with a smile.
  • Vincent was about to go straight to their bedroom when Angela saw him.
  • “Daddy,” she ran towards him.
  • Vincent immediately crouched to meet her daughter’s embrace. “How’s my princess? Do you feel better now?”
  • “Yes daddy, I’m not sick anymore. I can go to school tomorrow,” she said proudly while sitting in Vincent’s lap.
  • “Did you miss daddy?” He asked
  • “Yes daddy, I miss you so much because you’re my best daddy ever,” she giggled and at the same time looked for what he’s holding. “What’s that, Dad?” she asked, pointing to the paper bag he was holding.
  • “This one is my gift for you for being a good girl,” Vincent said and gave it to her.
  • “Wow, thank you so much, daddy! I love you very much!” Angela checked for what her dad brought for her.
  • “Okay, go play with your new toy,” he said. “Daddy will just change clothes.”
  • I was busy scrolling on my phone when Vincent came out of the washroom. He’s wearing short pants, with a printed beige color t-shirt.
  • “Honey, do you still remember what happened that night? Five years ago, do you know that man you’re with? Did you see his face?” he asked continuously.
  • I was surprised by Vincent’s sudden question. I couldn’t help but frown. “No, it’s very dark in the room. As long as I remember, I was trying to open all the doors to find you,” I said. “After I drank that glass of cocktail that night, and I feel that I was getting sick, my body was scorching. And I feel my body temperature rising, I could not control the heat coming from my body,”
  • “Would you believe that the drinks you drank were loaded with drugs?”
  • “What? What are you saying?” I was stunned, with a sudden confusion on my face.
  • “You heard it right,” Vincent said.
  • “How did you know? How did you find out? Who told you?” I asked him one after another. I could not help being surprised by what I heard.
  • “Donna confessed to me. That night someone made a prank. There are five glasses of cocktails that have drugs. And I think you drink one of those glasses,” he said. “That night, I went out to answer my father’s call. When I returned, you are not there. All I thought you just go to the washroom.”
  • “I keep on looking at you everywhere, I also called your cellphone, but it was turned off. I just thought you went home first,” I told him. “I’m about to leave the hotel when I was surprised to receive a call from Aunty, and she was looking for you. I saw you outside the hotel and waiting for a taxi, so I chased you.”
  • “Sorry, Lily, I didn’t even take care of you. You lost that night,” Vincent replied sadly.
  • I heaved a sigh. “Something that should not happen has happened, and we can’t do anything to change it. It doesn’t matter anymore. The good thing is that we were blessed by an angel, and her name is Angela, right?” I know he felt guilty about what happened, but we can’t bring it all back. “What we have to do is face it all. That is the truth that can never be undone. It doesn’t matter how important it is. The good thing is you are there to be her father, right?”
  • Vincent nodded. He hugged me tight and kiss my forehead. “How was your interview?” He suddenly asked just for a change of topic.
  • “Good, I got hired,” I said and beamed. “I will start tomorrow.”
  • “That would be great! We should celebrate.” He smiled widely. “I’m expecting you’ll fail the interview, so I thought we could run our business together instead.”
  • I know he was joking with me. not that I do not want to be with him. I just give him freedom. He may also find his pleasure. He never left me, mostly when I was pregnant with Angela. Vincent supported me. He was always by my side. I can’t imagine the shame of being pregnant without a man standing beside you to take the responsibility,
  • I’m very grateful to Vincent. He took all the responsibility. He married me and became the father of my daughter.
  • “Alright, let’s go out some other time,” he said. “We should celebrate you got a job.”
  • “We will,” I said. “For now, let’s eat our dinner.”

  • Adrian’s POV
  • After I took a bath, I decided to not go down to the living room. I’m not in the mood to meet the woman that mom wanted me to date. I grabbed the bottle of wine on my bedside table and went out of the balcony. I lit my cigarette as I thought about my newly hired personal assistant.
  • I took a sip on my wine, then puffed on my cigarette. “If she was really my childhood best friend, what am I going to do? She’s married.”
  • I heaved a sigh. I’m not even sure if she was really Lily, and she doesn’t know me.
  • After I finished drinking the wine, I went back inside my room and dressed in casual clothes. I was about to check on my phone when someone knocks on my door.
  • “Sir, Adrian?” it was the maid.
  • “Yes, come in.”
  • The door opened. “Sir, dinner is ready,” she said. “Your mother wants you to be with them at the dinner table.”
  • After a few minutes, I went down the stairs. I saw the woman sitting beside my mother. She was like a model, sophisticated and hot. But she wasn’t my type.
  • “Have you seen a replacement for Mary Ann?” my mother asked in the middle of the dinner.
  • “Yes, mom,” I replied without glancing at my mother.
  • “That’s good. When will she start?”
  • “Tomorrow.”
  • “Hopefully, she’s the same as Mary Ann,” she commented. “Mary Ann is a good woman. Your best friend is lucky to have her, how about you, son? When do you plan to settle down?” she asked, then glanced at Eva on her side.
  • The woman was also looking at him. She didn’t even bother to look away when I caught her staring at me. I cleared my throat. There was no doubt that this woman is interested in me.
