Chapter 4 Lily’S Memories

  • Lily’s POV
  • When I left the Romano building, I walked straight to the bus station. While I was waiting for the bus, I looked at my bracelet in my hand. I could not fully comprehend why the CEO suddenly hired me after he asked about my bracelet.
  • “Anyway, whatever the reason is,” I told myself. “I will just assume this bracelet is my lucky charm like it always is.” This is a gift of my sweetheart and a symbol of our love. “But the question is, will he still accept me when he finds out that I am married and have a child?” My heart ached for that thought. I wasn’t aware that my tears were falling if not by a passer-by that looked at my direction.
  • I sighed. I feel sorry for myself and Alex. “Forgive me, Alex. I wasn’t able to fulfil my promise,” she said as if Alex was just standing next to him, quietly listening for what she says.
  • Because of the incident that happened five years ago, I can no longer keep my promise. Even though I cannot go back to the past, I am still grateful because I have an adorable daughter who gives me strength and courage. She’s my inspiration. Even if I repent for my sins, I can do nothing.
  • Everything has happened. I wiped away my tears with my hands, and opened my bag to pick up the handkerchief. I leaned on the post while waiting for the bus, I am alone again. She’s free to talk as no one can see her, because if ever there is, they might think that she’s lunatic, she’s out of her mind. After all, the only person that can understand me is myself.
  • I looked at my bracelet. Its half-hearted pendant shone against the light post. As I looked at it, I remember those days that I am still with the man, I love… with the man that promised he’ll marry me when we grow up.
  • “Come and chase me!” I called out to Alex as I ran faster than him. “Faster!” I giggled.
  • “I’m on my way!” he shouted back. “Be ready when I catch you. I’ll tickle you.”
  • Alex caught me and tickled my waist. I laughed so hard and lay on the ground. “Stop!” I begged in between laughter. “Please, stop! I can’t breathe!”
  • He stopped when I caught his hand. I can’t even talk properly because I’m catching my breath. He lay down in the grass while I kept on coughing and handed me the bottled water, I knew my face was all red now, and somehow, I felt embarrassed. But it seems nothing for Alex.
  • “Alex, that’s too ticklish!” I said while I wiped my tears brought by so much laughter. Alex stood to get an extra towel in the bag and covered my exposed legs.
  • “Don’t run away from me and ask me to chase you again because I’ll surely punish you by tickling,” he told me with a smile.
  • I nodded. “Okay!”
  • “Come and lay down next to me,” he said.
  • I lay next to him and looked at the blue sky. “Alex, what is your dream when you grow up and finish school?”
  • He looked at me. “I want to marry the woman that I love.”
  • I knotted my forehead. “That’s lame,” I said. “When I grow up, I wanted to be a doctor.”
  • “Why do you want to be a doctor?” Alex asked me.
  • I met his gaze. “To take care of you when you get sick.”
  • “Really?” he asked with a suppressed smile in his lips. “Promise me that!”
  • “Yes, I promise,” I said. “When I grew up and became a doctor, I will take care of you.” I shifted on my position and looked at him. “How about you? What’s your dream?”
  • Alex shifted his gaze to the sky and smiled. “I want to be rich,” he said. “I want to be a successful businessman.”
  • I felt a little disappointed with what he said. I was expecting that he wanted to be with me when he grew up. “I thought you wanted to marry the woman that you love?”
  • He looked at me. “I want to be the best man for the woman that I will marry,” he said, looking straight in my eyes. “I want to be the best for you, Lily. That’s my dream.”
  • ______________
  • As soon as the bus arrived, I quickly hopped in. My phone rang and saw that it was my mom who’s calling.
  • “Hello, mom?”
  • “Lily, how’s the interview?” My mother asked on the other line. “Are you hired?”
  • “Yes, mom.” I can’t deny the excitement in my voice.
  • “That’s good news,” I heard her said happily.
  • “Finding a job nowadays is very difficult. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to get hired.”
  • I will do my best to stay in this job for a long time. I hope that what happened to me in my previous career will not happen again, or else I’ll accept the offer of Vincent to work with him.
  • When I search for Mr. Alexandrian Romano, he is an eligible bachelor. He becomes the CEO of Romano corporation at the age of twenty-three.
  • There’s a lot of rumors about him and his personal assistant. Just a week ago, Mary Ann’s boyfriend proposed to her. So the talks about Mr. Romano and Miss Mary Ann vanished like a bubble. And thank you for this bracelet this my lucky charm I always remember that I was hired because of this,
  • “Are you on the way home?”
  • I blinked twice when I heard mom’s voice from the other line. “Yes, mom, I’m already on the bus, and how’s Angela? is she still sick?”
  • “Don’t worry she’s doing good and she’s better now, she ate the porridge that I made for her and she already took her medicine, she’s now playing in the living room.”
  • “I will go to the supermarket later. I plan to cook delicious dish for dinner and make mushroom soup also for Angela..do you want me to buy something for you?” I asked.
  • “No thank you, just be safe, okay?”
  • “Yes, mom, thank you,” I said as I press the button of the bus, to inform the driver to pull over. “Alright mom, see you later, bye.”
  • I lowered my phone and got off the bus. I don’t know if I should tell my mother and Vincent that I got hired because the CEO was interested in my bracelet. I sighed. I think it’s irrelevant.
