Chapter 7
- As I cried, Luna Elodie wrapped her arms around me, holding me close to her and I was reminded of a feeling I wished never had left because I wasn't answering my phone calls.
- I felt a warmth and comfort that I yearned for more than ever. Elodie stroked my hair, whispering soothing words into my ear and I found myself nodding at her words.
- I was reminded of the time when I got so busy with work, that I didn't hear my phone ring.
- If I had been home early and had picked up that call, would my parents still be alive now?
- Would I have been in this mess in the first place?
- "It's okay, Katie. You're here now, all will be fine." Luna Elodie said softly and I shook my head.
- Now, what was Jace saying about my parents were not who I thought they were!
- I collected the tissue she handed to me and I wiped my tears with it.
- "Feel better?" she asked, her eyes filled with kindness.
- I nodded, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. "Yes, thank you."
- Luna Elodie smiled, finally showing a few wrinkles to indicate her age.
- "What was Jace talking about? He said my parents were not who I thought they were. What did he mean by that?" I asked, looking into her blue eyes that resembled that of Jace.
- "I think you've known enough today. Rest now, it has been a hectic day since it was your first time shifting. I know how hard it usually is. You can stay in my bed, I'll be outside if you need me" She walked away before I could say or mutter anything, leaving me alone in the large room.
- I looked around and rested on the huge soft bed and true to her words, I was famished and before I knew it, I slept off.
- DREAM
- I woke up in a shock and looked around. There was blood everywhere, all I could remember was that there was so much blood everywhere as far as my eyes could go.
- I looked around and knew this was not my reality. I was in a nightmare and this one looks so familiar.
- It was the one I've always had but before I could scan everywhere, I heard a blood-curdling scream that pierced through the….. night.
- It was already nighttime as I took a look around.
- Yes, it was the same place. It was where I found Tom almost dying.
- "Oh God please no! Please stop!" A man screamed and the sound reverberated throughout the whole surrounding and my blood went cold.
- It was the same dream. The exact same dream and scream of fear.
- The sound was terrifying. It sounded like fear and pain and agony. I was about to react when more screams filled the air.
- "Help! Somebody please help us!" I heard the sound of a man shouting but he sounded so different from Tom's voice.
- My heart began racing in my chest, and sweat beaded my forehead as I struggled to control my breathing. Now, it was the time to use my dream to my advantage and find out What could make grown men scream like that.
- What monster has been the cause of all this death and what monster killed my parents?
- Hot fear coiled inside me as I stood in front of the door that the screams were coming from. My hand was trembling violently as I reached for the handle.
- "Get a grip, Katie! You can do this," I found myself whispering but the words were barely audible over the pounding of my heart.
- This was eerily familiar. It was like I was watching behind the scenes as everything that occurred in the dream was happening and I couldn't do anything to control it.
- Even my own lips move on its own accord.
- "I'm a police officer, damn it. I can handle this." My mouth moved and the voice came out.
- Even though the fear enveloped me like a second skin, I didn't let that faze me too much, I had to do the same thing I did just yesterday, in my dreams.
- With a shaky breath, I pushed open the door, but this time, totally prepared for darkness that quickly swallowed me whole.
- It was the stench that hit me first. It was a sickening mix of blood, piss, and death that threatened to choke me.
- I swallowed hard, my throat dry and tight, as I stepped into the room.
- I kept my senses on high alert, scanning everywhere I missed the last time despite my body disobeying each of my commands but the sight that greeted me when I turned a corner was enough to make me vomit as my blood ran cold.
- There were bodies everywhere, slumped and lifeless. The worst part was that some bodies weren't whole, it was as if some were torn to pieces and scattered on the floor like discarded dolls.
- What shocked me the most was that, these bodies were that of my fellow colleague officers and not the bandits and criminals.
- The bodies were so many that my stomach finally churned and I could feel bile rising in my throat as I fought to push the contents of my stomach back inside.
- "Oh god," I stammered, my voice barely recognizable to my ears. "What happened here?"
- I forced my feet to move further into the room, my eyes scanning the walls for any clue, any sign of what could have caused such a horror. And then I saw them—the scratches, long and deep, etched into the surface of the walls as if by the claws of a ginormous monster.
- But something different was here that I didn't notice the first time, gunshots scattered everywhere.
- "What kind of animal could have done this?" I murmured.
- Suddenly, a chorus of loud wolf howls echoed in the distance. The sound immediately sent more icy shivers down my veins.
- It was the exact sound of wolf howls that I heard that night. It sounds so familiar like I knew where it came from.
- My fear finally overwhelmed me and I realized that this was way beyond my capacity. Even if this was a dream, I can't seem to bring myself to move any further. My legs stayed glued to the floor, refusing to go back and run away as far as I could.
- Finally, my body resounded and I turned around to get the hell out of there, but before I could take a single step, I collided with something—or someone—in the darkness.
- I let out a scream before I finally managed to ask. "W-who's there?"
- A figure stumbled in front of me, he was covered with blood and was breathing raggedly. He looked like he was seriously injured and on the brink of collapse.
- "Miss Katie?" The figure suddenly gasped.
- "Tom?" I gasped. Knowing this was what happened in my last dream. He didn't reply and I stepped closer to greet him.
- "We need to get out of here," I said, my voice urgent. "I think there's something out here."
- I haven't seen his face but I instinctively knew it was him because it's a dream I already had.
- But before we could move, Tom collapsed to the ground, his body shaking as more blood gushed from his side.
- I rushed in and picked him up but it wasn't the feature of Tom that I looked into, it was of Jace.
- "J-Jace?" I stammered out, walking backward and falling flat on my butt.
- I couldn't believe my eyes, this was not what happened. This dream was different.
- "Growl….."
- We both looked up to the sound of a guttural growl close by and I didn't have time to process what was happening, only seeing a pair of bright crimson eyes before it engulfed me whole.
