Chapter 7

• The next day, the girl continued her work routine as usual. She arrived at the office very early, exactly at seven o'clock this time. Unfortunately, her boss had already arrived and was in his office. She hadn't seen him in the previous days due to meetings, so they hadn't crossed paths.
• The man had left the door open to hear any movement in the waiting room, even though he had security cameras at his disposal. Seeing the security cameras and hearing the noise, he called out, "Jade!" She immediately appeared at his office door, and upon seeing her, he said disdainfully, "How can you come to the office in that state? Can't you at least put on makeup to cover those horrible dark circles? You look like a raccoon, it's unpleasant to see you like this."
• "I'm sorry," the girl exclaimed. "I'll go to the bathroom to put on makeup. I left in a hurry to not be late and planned to do it once I arrived," she justified immediately. "May I go now?"
• "No, it's not necessary. After this conversation, you'll have all the time in the world to put on makeup," he said without hiding his malicious smile.
• "I don't understand why you're saying that, Mr. Kerry," the bewildered girl replied.
• "You'll understand soon enough. Sit down," he ordered, and when she did, he threw a folder at her, which rolled across the table until it stopped in her hands. "Read this report," he said. The girl immediately began reading it, but she didn't find anything strange because what was written there was the absolute truth. She raised an eyebrow, still not understanding.
• "Definitely, I see that your ability is limited," he observed, analyzing her, "and I can't find that intelligent person with extraordinary qualities anywhere. I swear I couldn't even find them using a microscope. I will explain to you and spare your damn brain from overheating due to the extraordinary effort of thinking," he said mockingly. "This report states that you fell asleep on the day you started working in this office during working hours, and therefore that is grounds for dismissal. So you will have to leave this office immediately, because I told you that I wouldn't tolerate it the next time and you would be out of this company. I don't like lazy or useless people," he emphasized through gritted teeth, as she only caused displeasure within him.
• "Excuse me, I believe you either didn't read or your brain overheated and prevented you from reading because it doesn't say anything about what you're alleging here," the young girl said, already fed up and in a challenging tone, raising her chin in a sign of defiance, thanks to a hint of courage and the fury that had erupted within her.
• This gesture unleashed Kerry's fury, who approached her, and lifted her from her seat by the shoulders.
• "Who the hell do you think you are to speak to me like that? Are you mocking me?"
• Seeing those sparkling blue eyes full of anger, Jade felt intimidated, closed her eyes, and shrunk back, raising her hands to protect herself from the man's possible attack.
• "You're stupid! Do you think I'm going to hit you? You're giving yourself more importance to me than you really have," he said. And with that, he let her go, and she opened her eyes, surprised.
• "I understand," the girl stammered, "what I really wanted to say is that it wasn't my intention to offend you. I spoke without thinking, I'm sorry," she apologized, thinking that she couldn't anger him, she didn't want to unleash the man's fury again, because he would end up firing her, and she couldn't afford that luxury. "I just wanted to ask you, did you review the report? Are you sure it says what you think is written there?"
• "Of course I know what I ordered the security chief that day, and I threatened him that if he didn't comply, he would be fired," he said arrogantly.
• "But the results are not what you expected, because I didn't fall asleep during working hours, I did it an hour after finishing my..." she didn't continue speaking because he looked at her sternly.
• "Are you sure? I don't believe you, because I distrust you with that angelic face, as if you were innocent and didn't know about people's evil. Unfortunately for you, I know your true nature. You're here because most likely you slept with the head of human resources to get your position, because so far I haven't seen any potential in you," he took the report from her and skimmed through it. When he saw the conclusions, he couldn't believe it and lashed out at her again. "Did you also sleep with the security chief?"
• Jade remained silent, only receiving the man's verbal attack.
• "Of course that's it, but I'm going to expose you. I will review it myself, and you and that man will leave this company."
• He walked towards the monitors, began to review the recordings from three days ago at the time the report said the girl had fallen asleep, and upon reviewing, he could see that it was true.
• He clenched his jaw in anger and shouted.
• " Out! Go to work and I don't want you to be the one who approaches my office, let Samantha do it, I don't want to see you, I can't stand your presence."
• He left the office with his shoulders slumped and a look of sadness, as he was about to sit down, the other secretary noticed his expression.
• " What's wrong, Jade? Why was the boss arguing with you?"
• He took her by the arm and walked with her to her desk, sat in his chair and invited her to take the chair in front facing away from the boss's office.
• " Because he hates me, he can't stand me and wants me to leave and resign, and since I don't, he's doing everything possible to get rid of me from here and I can't afford to be without a job. Nowhere else will I earn what they pay here and I need the money " the girl expressed with anguish " my father is undergoing dialysis and urgently needs a kidney transplant, that's why I endure all his outbursts, insults, and mistreatment, because I have to think of him and not myself."
• " I'm very sorry and I understand you, Kerry is the most insensitive man I know, to the point of cruelty, don't even try to tell him about your situation, because he will mock you and won't take it well, he'll think you're trying to manipulate him for privileges, he's not moved by anyone, he feels superior to everyone else, he's colder than ice."
