Chapter 23

• Jade walked into the office early in the morning, as she did every day; however, she found it strange not to see her boss, who always arrived before her. The cleaning lady was finishing up cleaning his office, so Jade took the keys to her boss's office and asked her to clean it as well.
• Just as she opened the door, the office phone rang, so she took a moment to answer it as she walked over. The complaint on the other end of the line was immediate.
• "Where were you? You're just getting here? Of course, when the cat's away, the mice will play. Why are you out of breath? Weren't you near your desk? Why aren't you answering?"
