• Kerry's reaction was completely unexpected, both for his father and for himself.
• "Do not you dare touch her!" exclaimed the man in a cold voice, while holding his father's hand.
• Everything had happened in split seconds, too fast. When Kerry saw his father about to hit Jade, he snapped out of the stupor he was in and grabbed his hand tightly. He had never confronted his father before, always been obedient in everything, and he didn't know where he had found the courage to do it this time, even overcoming his own fears that tormented him.
