• Sitting at his desk, Kerry felt a strange excitement that he had never experienced before. In fact, for the first time in his adult life, he felt nervous. His hands began to sweat and he couldn't explain the anxiety that was overwhelming him.
• He saw Jonas enter, followed by a thin man with black hair, tanned skin, eyes that were a mix of green and brown, who looked to be around fifty years old, although it was hard to determine his exact age because he appeared quite worn out. There were deep shadows under his eyes, giving him a sunken look, and his features looked consumed and sickly, with dull, grayish skin that sent shivers down Kerry's spine.
• If the man hadn't said he was Jade's father, Kerry wouldn't have believed it, as the man shared no physical characteristics with the young woman.
