Chapter 38
- We left the gardens after our talk and headed over to the Aquarium. Jared had never been there, and I was ashamed to say that neither had I. It was a good day for both of us. We spent a few hours at the Aquarium, and we took pictures in a photo booth. I kept a copy, and he took the other copy. It was late by the time I dropped him off at home, making sure to buy him dinner first.
- I wished that there was more I could do other than give him money, but he had a mom, he wasn’t in the system and there wasn’t much that I could do, except be there for him when he needed me. Talking to his mother wouldn’t help either, it might just make things worse for him.
- It was about two a.m. when my phone rang which I had left in the living room. I bumped my toe against the bookcase as I walked in the dark to answer it. I had only gone to sleep two hours earlier, but I was wide awake now. A call at two a.m. could only mean disaster.
