• When Bert returned, he was with Shane’s parents. Jose’s face was filled with anguish the moment he saw his daughter. Apparently, ever since Shane left Samar, she completely cut off communication with them. They tried reaching her countless times, but all lines had gone dead. They even reached out to people they knew in Manila who might be close to Shane, but none of them had any clue where she was.
• That’s when they learned Shane had just arrived back—and the child with her was hers, named Charles. A kindhearted family had taken her in, bringing her all the way from Manila to Samar. They saw her walking aimlessly along the road, dazed. They couldn’t bear to leave her and the child behind, especially with the state they were in, so they took them along.
