Chapter 56 Farm

  • Vangie tried her best not to show how giddy she felt as she rode with Bert. She still refused to admit—even to herself—that she liked their current situation a little too much. She’d missed his warmth for two whole years. Missed his scent. Every single day back in Canada, it felt like she was haunted by his memory. When she first found out she was pregnant, all she could do was cry. She kept thinking how much easier it would’ve been if Bert had been there with her. Maybe he would’ve taken care of her, doted on her.
  • Bert, meanwhile, couldn’t stop himself from smiling as he drove. If he could make this moment last forever, he would. He had missed her terribly. Every time he used to hug her, all his fatigue vanished. Vangie had been his home. That’s why when she left, it had nearly destroyed him.
  • They traveled for a while until finally, they stopped in front of Bert’s house. Vangie’s eyes widened in alarm as the motorbike pulled up to the familiar gate. She slapped Bert lightly on the shoulder.
