• “W-What does this mean?” Vangie asked, bewildered. Her eyes darted back and forth between Bert and the paper in her hand. Bert stood and moved to sit beside her.
• “I didn’t lie to you, Vangie.” He gently took her hand in his. “Not once did I lie. Even when you left, there was only you. It’s always been you.”
• Vangie felt like her head was spinning. For three years, she’d tortured herself wondering what had gone wrong between her and Bert. She carried their child while being miles away from the man who was supposed to be his father.
