Chapter 55 Second Chance

• Vangie ate in silence. She couldn’t explain what she was feeling now that Bert was beside her. She never expected to see him again. They were only supposed to be here briefly, but something told her this stay might be longer than planned.
• Her hunger eased once she had something in her stomach. Even Bert’s cooking—she missed that too. She couldn’t steady her breathing with him this close.
• While Bert was washing the dishes, he told her to get changed. Though she didn’t want to go with him, she decided to freshen up. After her shower, she put on fitted jeans and a black T-shirt. She had lost even more weight after giving birth, especially since she had undergone a cesarean section to deliver Joseph. Her hair had grown longer. She dried it with a blower and tied it in a loose bun. Once she was done, she went downstairs.
