Chapter 46 Exposed

• I hurriedly step back further, my back coming in contact with the door. I shut my eyes and try to make myself small and invisible. I wait, though I have no idea what I’m waiting to hear. I crack one eye open and look toward the bed. Neela is still asleep. I open my eyes fully and take half a step forward, letting my eyes settle on her sleeping form.
• She’s still so very beautiful, just as beautiful as she was in school. You can see that she’s gotten older, but it’s like she has grown into her age, and everything has settled nicely. There are healing cuts and bruises on her face, and my stomach clenches. I can’t help but wonder what happened to her and why she’s here instead of with her husband.
• Shit! Her husband……she has a husband. It’s the man she left me and our son for. He should be coming for her, shouldn’t he? The bed creaks softly, Neela shifting in bed. She doesn’t wake, and I take that as my opportunity to get out of here before she opens her eyes.
