Chapter 6
- My new apartment is expensive and belongs to the luxury class. However, I know it’s not in the same class as Lucas’s. Antonio helped me carry all my things. He was Lucas’s confidant and his driver. Then, there was another man whose name, if I remember correctly, was Ace. He was as agile as Antonio and obedient to Lucas’ orders.
- “My Lady, if you need anything, please contact me or Ace; Mr. Lucas has told me so,” Antonio told me, and I nodded. I guess tonight was my first night sleeping in luxury for a long time.
- “Miss Alexandra, I am Rebecca who will help you with your needs during your stay here, I will be doing all the housework.”
- My eyes widened in surprise, then asked, “Everything?”
- Rebecca nodded with a big smile.
- “Yes, My Lady, Mr. Cassano asked me to do just that. You don’t have to worry I will do a good job for you,” concluded Rebecca, who looked confident and competent. This woman did look competent, so I nodded and thanked her.
- “You will be in the main room; please follow me,” Rebecca said again, and I followed her to the room she intended for me. My eyes widened in surprise at the size of the room, which had significant furnishings such as a king-size bed with a super-soft mattress, a wardrobe with several doors and drawers, and a dressing table with a drawer cabinet.
- I entered this room with slow steps. Even around the bed, there was a cozy fur rug. Two-bed lamps are attached to the wall above the nightstand.
- “I’ll leave you to cook dinner,” Rebecca said, which made me turn to her and nod. As the door closed, I quickly walked over to the bed and lay half my body on the mattress. My legs hang over the side of the bed. I stared at the ceiling of my new room with a feeling of giddiness mixed with disbelief.
- “I’d better get my things organized,” I said as I got up from my current position and started putting my clothes into the closet. However, I was again surprised that Lucas had already filled most of the space in this closet with clothes and other items, such as several pairs of shoes and sandals, women’s bags and accessories, hats, and scarves. Even the Rectangular cabinet drawer Lucas filled with watches, bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings, and hair clips.
- “Wow... I feel like I have my mall here,” I said in amazement. Fortunately, there was still some space left to put my clothes, which were very different in class when juxtaposed with the clothes in this closet.
- After neatly storing my belongings, I showered and changed into my sleeping clothes. I tried on one of the pale pink satin sleepwear. Its elegant design and pretty color attracted me. The nightgown had long sleeves and was only knee-length, the cleavage open and downward. My not-so-large breasts poked out a little in this nightgown, which was quite sexy.
- Besides, if I’m in a sexy outfit, it’s just me and Rebecca. Lucas definitely won’t be coming here tonight. The smell of Rebecca’s cooking whets my appetite as I open my bedroom door to go out. I moved to the kitchen impatiently and pinned some of my hair with a hairpin with only a few strands loose.
- “It smells so good,” I cut off and continued in a small voice because Lucas was already there when I arrived in the kitchen. Sitting at the granite bartender’s table, he was sipping wine. My eyes widened in surprise, and I quickly turned to leave. However, when I turned around, Lucas was already in front of me.
- “How did you-“
- “Sit down, it’s dinner time,” he interrupted, then his eyes shifted to my cleavage, and I quickly covered it up in embarrassment. Lucas’ smirk made me look at him with a frown.
- “What’s so funny? I’m feeling embarrassed right now,” I complained, which stopped Lucas from snickering.
- “Come on, let’s have dinner. After that, I want to tell you a bedtime story,” Lucas said, again confusing me. Lucas walked away from me and returned to his seat. I reluctantly followed him and tried not to care about my current appearance. I sat in the chair next to Lucas, the one with the high legs.
- “You don’t have to feel embarrassed by me anymore. Haven’t I seen everything? We even shared the warmth of that night,” Lucas says, which makes me instantly embarrassed; I reflexively pinch his arm to keep him from saying anything more about that hot and passionate night. Rebecca can hear it, and I’m ashamed to have my sexual experience heard by someone I don’t want to be.
- My pinch on Lucas doesn’t seem to have any effect as he casually sips his wine. We eat dinner and talk a bit. Lucas finishes first and asks me to meet him in my room. I rolled my eyes after he left. I shouldn’t have let him into my room, but I got this apartment from him.
- When I entered my bedroom, Lucas stood before the open glass window. The night air filled my room, and the curtains waved gently in the night breeze. I walked over to Lucas and took in the view of Manhattan from this height.
- “I’m a monster,” Lucas said, which made me turn to him instantly, curious and waiting for him to speak again.
- “Have you ever heard of a man cursed to become a savage wolf on a full moon?”
- My forehead furrowed, my gaze moving from Lucas’s face to the Manhattan cityscape as I thought. I’d heard of such fictional stories, but I wouldn’t say I liked fictional stories about mythological creatures.
- “If you mean mythological creatures, of course I’ve heard of them from various literature, but I’m too fond of such stories, they’re just something fictional,” I explained bluntly.
- “What if they exist? I’m one of them. Werewolves exist,” Lucas asked me. I, who didn’t know much about such things, couldn’t overreact. If they existed, I couldn’t do much about it either. The world is vast, and sharing space with other creatures is possible.
- “If those creatures really exist, what can I do? The world is vast and we can share space.”
- The night breeze hit my body; I folded my arms and hugged myself due to the cold.
- “You’re not afraid of a beast like me? I could be dangerous to you and the chances of you surviving the danger because of me are very small. Like you said, mythical creatures aren’t always something people can trust.”
- Lucas’ explanation made me realize something. I might have been dealing with someone more dangerous than I thought. However, I was already here.
- “So, this is what you mean by a secret above the bounds of human reason?” I asked, instantly recalling our previous discussion about keeping Lucas’s identity a secret.
- “That’s right. You should know that I’m not the only werewolf in this world. We live in packs and have our life systems. We can turn into savage wolf monsters without mercy and endanger the lives of humans and other creatures,” Lucas explained, which scared me a little. After all, knowing something others once believed did not exist and is now natural is terrifying and shocking.
- “Make me understand about that other side of your life so that I don’t plan to run away from you or break our agreement by revealing this secret,” I said, then turned to look at Lucas. Tonight would be one of those long nights where I had to listen to the bedtime stories Lucas told me.
