Chapter 19

  • I thanked Lucas for that delicious and classy lunch. The best barbeque meat I’ve ever eaten in my life. Lucas dropped me off in front of the main door of our office; at first, I resisted the idea for fear that people would see us and they would make assumptions about us. However, Lucas always had a reasonable excuse to dismiss my assumptions.
  • “No one knows that I’m in this car with you. No need to worry, I don’t want you to walk far while you’re wearing shoes with a toe that could punch someone in the head.” Lucas looked at me with a gaze that didn’t want to be contradicted; I looked down and gave a slight nod. I turned to stare at my stilettos for a moment and smiled. The man had a point.
  • I was just about to open the door, but Lucas held my wrist. I immediately turned back to him. Lucas beckoned me to come closer to him with a gesture of his hand. A confused me furrowed my brows at first but then complied. As I got closer to Lucas, he immediately pinched me with his thumb and forefinger and kissed me.
